Shadow Yoga, founded by Zhander Remete,
is a school of Hatha Yoga based on a practical
understanding of the classical yoga texts.
Fixed forms or preludes are used to prepare the student
for different levels of asana. These preludes
make use of warrior-forms (viraparampara) and sun-forms (suryanamaskar)
to release obstructions in the peripheral
body and the spine. Asana practice is introduced
when the work of the preludes is understood.
Balakrama step to
strength
The Balakrama builds strength and stamina. This prelude makes the core
of the body firm and removes stiffness from the joints. Correct
positioning and the application of marmasthana (the science of the vital junctions)
awakens the intelligence of the body. Co-ordination of breath and movement is developed and the practice of bandhas (internal
locks) is introduced. The Balakrama is recommended for students
coming from other schools of yoga.
Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam churning the shadow warrior
Moving the Shadow deepens
the work of the warrior and sun forms and refines the coordination of the body and breath with broader stance work and more elaborate movements of the arms and legs.
Kartikkeya Mandalam garland of light
Kartikkeya Mandalam develops the internal energy through deeper stance work
and spiralling movements.
